Rio Grande Valley GME Consortium, Inc.
The purpose of the GME Consortium is two-fold. Initially, the foundation was designed to provide charitable programs that offer goods, and services to economically disadvantaged individuals living in the Rio Grande Valley with an emphasis on wellness and prevention. The foundation has now expanded to additionally include the establishment of a formal medical education and training program focused on Graduate Medical Education. This required securing the accreditation of the GME Consortium by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) which now authorizes our faculty physicians to train medical residents in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Initially, these Residency Programs will include Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and General Surgery with plans to expand in the future.
About the Foundation
The GME Consortium is located at 5501 South McColl Road in Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas. Operated by an experienced board of directors and management with over 20 years of experience. The foundation will be operated as a 501 (c) 3 corporation with services including:
Donations of goods and services may be based on the financial support received as needs for the foundation are identified; literature; health education pertaining to medical conditions prevalent in the RGV, promoting healthy lifestyle changes and preventive programs available to local communities through the GME Consortium or its affiliated members.
Business and private donations are a substantial part of the sustainability plan for the GME Consortium.
Charitable Purposes
The charitable purposes of the GME Consortium are to develop programs that focus on health education and wellness, as well as prevention and management of medical conditions through workshops, seminars, conferences, and lectures; providing nutritional guidance and literature; and, supporting scientific research projects and training on medical conditions with high prevalence in the Rio Grande Valley.
Working in affiliation with Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, an ACGME accredited hospital and GME Consortium partner here, the faculty has formally established the training programs necessary to begin formally training future doctors to enter medical practice here in South Texas to help meet the demands of this growing population.
Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, (dhrhealth.com) a 519 bed Trauma 1 Medical Center is Edinburg, Texas is the primary partner in the GME Consortium and provides financial support for operations and to hire the experienced faculty necessary to develop and train medical Residents currently in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and General Surgery.
